The laboratory of Medical Engineering arises from a vital need: to achieve the perfect tandem between doctors and engineers.
SINCE 2015
The School of Medicine of the University of Navarra has a pioneering laboratory of Medical Engineering. Created in 2015, its goal is to provide engineering solutions to the healthcare environment through the close partnership that exists between the different Departments of the School, services of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, the laboratories of the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) and the School of Engineering (Tecnun).

WORK SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE LABORATORY
Characterization of adipose tissue
This project arose as a result of a research need of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Members of laboratory carried out a research and elaborated a doctoral thesis to answer the problem. From there, several articles were written, including one published in the scientific journal certificate Biomaterialia.
Laparoscopy simulator
This project arises from the need of the Simulation Center and is being employee also in the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and in activities of the conference Surgery for Students (JOICE). Students from different Degrees performed an interdisciplinary work of design, fabrication and validation as part of their Final Projects Degree.
Surgical planning
This project arises from a surgical need of a patient from the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. Professionals from the Clinic and the laboratory worked together to develop a specific 3D model for a patient with craniosynostosis. From this work emerged a article that is collected in the book Neurosurgery published in 2017.
STRATEGY 2025
The laboratory of Medical Engineering financial aid with its work to pursue the objectives of the Strategy 2025 proposed by the University. This Strategy proposes to contribute to the resolution of the challenges posed by society through its work researcher , professor and assistance, and in partnership with other people and institutions. The laboratory is aligned with the three lines of action:
EDUCATION TRANSFORMER
TFG and internships in which the student is the owner of its project making decisions.
RESEARCH IMPACT AND FOCUS
Projects with a clear practical purpose seeking the implementation and solution of real problems.
INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIVERSITY
Courses and TFGs together with several Degrees (Final Projects Degree joint between Biomedical Engineering, design industrial and Medicine).
